Nissan Introduces Energy Efficient Ships

YOKOHAMA (DP) - Nissan introduced the car carrier (car carrier) Nichio Maru energy efficient. These ships serve Japan's domestic transportation via sea route.

Shin Kurushima Dockyard boat is applying solar panels. Nichio Maru became the first Japanese ship to apply those features.

Ships rely on a diesel engine is controlled electronically. Compared to similar ships, Nichio Maru could save fuel consumption (fuel) to 1400 tons per year, which can reduce CO2 emissions by 4200 tonnes per year.

Nitto Kaiun Maru Nichio Corporation will operate on the main route between the Kanto (Oppama), Kyoto (Kobe) and (Kanda) Kyushu. Nissan usually set sail four times a week on the route. However, the frequency will increase to 6 times a week.

Use of Nichio Maru ship became part of the Nissan Green Program 2016. Nissan not only to develop environmentally friendly cars (such as zero-emission electric cars), since the production process, logistics and other Nissan is committed to reduce CO2 emissions.

The ship weighs 11 400 tons can carry 880 vehicles (without truck: 1380 units) with 115 trailer units.
