VW Caravelle will be assembled in Indonesia

Hanover (DP) - Volkswagen (VW) AG has decided to start a Semi-Knocked Down or SKD Transporter T5 passenger cars in Indonesia or known as the VW Caravelle.

The German company will assemble the model T5 in Indonesia for the local market together with the importer PT. Garuda Mataram Motor (GMM). T5 Transporters will be formulated at the VW plant in Hanover, then transported by truck to the center of SKD in Bissendorf, Wedemark.

Once there, some will be dismantled and transported via Hamburg to Jakarta on a freighter. GMM then do SKD in Indonesia.

The initial plan will make the assembly of as many as 220 units. The first vehicle to be delivered in February 2012.

"We are very pleased to have our partners to assemble a model that could improve pertrumbuhan paasar," said Jens Ocksen, Member of Management of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. GMM has also made assembly (SKD) for the Golf and Touran.
